Getting Ready for the Holidays

Holiday’s are a very special time for family and friends. It can be a harmonious time full of great memories for everyone and at the same time it can be a time of the year that can have many negative remembrances. People give designer diaper bags and cute baby clothes to the new mother and the baby clothes get worn by the lovely babies. But the stress that this time of year can put on people can be enough to make even the strongest at heart quiver at the thought of what happened last year.

All of the planning and cooking and the alcohol linger long after the season has passed. Wonderful smells filled the house and everyone felt the magic of the time. And yet there are still many things that make it hard to forget what problems might have happened. As you think back on the cute baby clothes and the designer diaper bags full of bottles, diapers and baby clothes remember to take what you learned and apply it towards next years event planning.

Certain people just don’t mix well with alcohol, or even with certain other people. IF you make a note of that information then you can avoid giving the trouble maker the real alcohol or seating the two politically opinionated people next tot each other at the dinner table. These simple changes in the event next year can make all the different between a hit party and a miserable flop. That is why it is important to make a physical note of these observations. Not just a mental note that might get fuzzy by next year. Use names, events and dates in a notebook so that when it comes time to set up the planning stage for the next party, you will be able to remember the details and also why it was important.

Taking the extra minutes to do that right after the event will make the time spent on setting things up next year go so much quicker and the final result go from the joke of the family to the talk of the town as folks start to look forward to attending for the fun of it rather that to see who gets into a fight with whom.

It doesn’t even have to be anything major. It maybe nothing more than just a note that reminds you one person actually hates peanuts but loves walnuts can make the whole event a success. But unless you remember to make that notation to your self while it is fresh in your mind, you will forget by the next holiday. That is almost a given.

So if you want next year’s event to be great the start you’re planning the day after this year’s event. Things will be fresh in your mind and then there is a chance that even you too will find it to be a party that you look forward to in a good way rather than with dread and fear.

Decorating for the Holidays

When the holidays come it is fun to get into the Christmas spirit. You might not have a lot of money but you can still make the home look wonderful for the season. There are many little things you can do that will brighten up your home and make people feel fabulous about the holiday.

The Christmas season can have a positive or a negative affect on people. Many people who are low on funds might be down and out while others who are buying and giving feel fantastic. No matter what your financial situation is decorating around your home will make you feel great about the holiday and put you in the spirit. You don’t have to drive around town and look at the lighted palm trees when you can enjoy your own decorations at home.

One of the simplest things you can do for the holiday season is place a wreath on your front door. The best things about wreaths are that you can make them yourself. They can be made with pinecones, pine tree limbs, wood branches and painted and more. A hot glue gun is the best way to secure a wreath together. A wreath at the front door is a welcoming symbol to your friends and family when they come to visit and it always gives the home a nice touch.

When you decorate for the holidays you might decide on prelit Christmas trees this year. They can save you time in decorating and money. This is because the artificial Christmas trees can be used every year so you don’t have to continue spending money every year on a tree. Some of the trees come with a remote control and they already have decorations on them too.

Lights are a big part of decorating for Christmas. When you decorate you might want to have additional lights around the exterior of the home or even inside the home. Another way to add additional lighting that people love is through candles. You can make your own candles or you can buy them in the store. They make the room look romantic and the holiday is the best time to burn them.

Decorating for the holidays doesn’t mean you have to have a lot of decorations and an abundance of Christmas villages to make your home look right. You can still have an amazing holiday when you do just the little things like candles and wreaths. A red or green tablecloth can immediately accent a kitchen or dining room table. You might want to buy a Christmas rug to place in the doorway. Bathrooms can be lightly decorated also.

Decorating during the holiday season doesn’t have to mean clutter. You can decorate your home at Christmas lightly by doing a few small things. A wreath on your door is a wonderful way to invite people into your home and you can make it yourself. Candles and plug in lights are wonderful too. Don’t worry about competing with the neighbors. Decorate to your taste and to what creates the holiday spirit for you.

Serving Alcohol at Christmas

If you are having a holiday party this year and having many guests over it is important to think about alcoholic beverages. You might be known to throw the best parties but it is the safety of your guests you need to be concerned about.

The holidays are often the worst times of the year for drinking and driving. People come from holiday parties where there are tons of artificial Christmas trees and plenty of booze. Many people are seriously injured and even killed. It is important to think about your guests when they arrive and when they leave if you are offering alcoholic beverages at your home.

The best way to serve alcohol at a party is to ensure the guests are old enough to drink. Be sure no teenager’s are getting a hold of any alcohol either. The liquor must be controlled. The best way to do this is by setting a table up in a corner away from everyone that is in public view of the party (but away from decorated artificial Christmas trees). Place all of the booze under the table or on a shelf behind and have a friend and you take turns on bartending. This way you know who is drinking what and how much people have had to drink. This also ensures teens do not get into the alcohol. If you leave all of the liquor in the kitchen on the counter they might hide behind the Christmas tree and drink also.

When you hold a party and you serve alcohol during the holidays it is also important to watch how much people have to drink. You might consider holding keys of people who want to drink at the beginning of the night. This way when they want to go home and they come to you for the keys you can assess if they are okay to drive or not. Always take keys when people are sober. If you try to take keys away from a drunk insistent upon driving it could cause a scuffle ending up in someone knocking over the artificial Christmas trees.

When you hold a holiday party during the Christmas season and you are serving alcohol it is important to remember that you could be responsible if the person leaves your home and gets into an accident. If they kill someone or themselves you could indirectly be charged with manslaughter. If you care about the people you invite to your home the last thing you want to see is that they were in an accident after leaving your home because they drank too much.

When you hold a party during the holidays you need to monitor the alcohol carefully. The best way to protect you is not to serve alcohol. However, if you choose to serve liquor, wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages you should seclude the liquor and monitor who is drinking. Be sure to take keys at the beginning of the party from people who are drinking and always pay attention to how much people have had.
